Stealthily tucked away in an unassuming strip mall in Fountain Valley, this counter-service deli/bake shop is a secret within a city known for clandestine culinary joints. Executive chef Julio De Leon and baker Natalie Burke combine their talents to earn a spot on the map in a big way. A star on the compact menu is the pastrami sandwich topped with Greek yogurt coleslaw and held together with house-made rye --- the meat is smoked and cured in-house. At dinnertime, the menu expands slightly to feature sides like Muenster cheese-infused smashed potatoes, chicken drenched in IPA herbed butter and a tomahawk pork chop with maple apricot gastrique. Burke’s slices of cake are worthy orders, too. The stark black-and-white venue also offers a well-composed selection of local craft brews.
