South Street Diner Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Start the day off right whenever your day starts at South Street Diner. Located at the corner of Kneeland and South Streets, it's one of the few Boston restaurants that never close.
Food & Drinks: Breakfast, which is served all day, consists of Monte Cristo sandwiches, burritos served with home fries, and every kind of french toast imaginable, as well as traditional staples: steak and eggs, fluffy pancakes, Belgian waffles and overstuffed omelets. If you come for lunch or dinner, they do have a limited selection of beer and wine, but we prefer the '50s-style drinks like the extra-thick frappe, malted egg cream ice cream soda and the raspberry-lime rickey. Pair your favorite nostalgic beverage with some greasy starters (no one counts calories at a diner) such as Buffalo fingers, jalapeño poppers, golden onion rings and mozzarella sticks. Sandwiches, clubs and burgers include a side of french fries or a salad. We like the Reuben stacked with tender corned beef and the grilled chicken club, too. Heartier fare includes a mixed grill with a choice of Italian sausage, grilled boneless pork chops, chicken, grilled portobello mushroom or steak tips served with a choice of potato, rice and vegetable. Warm baked blueberry pie arrives in a casserole dish and is large enough to share.
