The Southern Gentleman Gastropub Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: The Southern Gentleman Gastropub occupies a glass-enclosed space atop The Shops Buckhead Atlanta. Thanks to its ample fenestration, guests may enjoy a view of Peachtree Road below, especially from the two-top table that sits right in front of the facing window. Cool medium blue and pale off-white colors provide a sophisticated ambience. We especially like the high-backed wing chairs.
Food & Drinks: For brunch, start with the chicken liver and pork terrine, which comes with apple "beignets" (really fried apple rings) and a side of green salad. Sweetbreads and stuffed quail also tempt. Shrimp and grits presents ample shrimp and stone-ground grits, and gets a Creole touch from the New Orleans-style barbecue sauce, a nice twist on a native low country dish. We're eager to sample the pickled shrimp offered on the bar menu. For dessert, try the banoffee tart, a banana-based treat. The wine list supplies good choices to go with the food; the Blackbird Vineyards rosé was perfect with the terrine and the shrimp and grits. Check the schedule for winemaker dinners, for which the food seems even more adventurous.
