Spoonriver Restaurant Review:

Start with a high-profile address, which is across the street from the dynamic Guthrie Theater, next door to the fascinating Mill City Museum and around the corner from the historic Stone Arch Bridge on the Mississippi River. Add a proven restaurateur: Brenda Langton, the owner of Café Brenda, the maverick Warehouse District destination for vegetarians and health-conscious foodies for nearly a quarter-century. Throw in a sleek, contemporary design, a meat-loving mentality and a bar that knows how to shake a cocktail that Carrie Bradshaw would love and you've got Spoonriver. Chef Lisa Carlson's menu deftly turns from slow-roasted Minnesota-raised pork tenderloin with a sprightly edamame succotash and a sizzling lamb burger to lovely herb- and chèvre-stuffed ravioli, wild mushroom-pistachio terrine with a stone fruit chutney and a hearty sandwich stuffed with heirloom tomatoes, microgreens and a thick swipe of sunflower pesto. Weekend brunch (favorites include warm buckwheat crêpes filled with smoked salmon and omelets bursting with wild rice and mushrooms) is especially popular on warm-weather Saturdays when the nearby Mill City Farmers Market is in session. If you're planning to dine before the curtain goes up next door at the Guthrie, make sure you have a reservation.
