State Fare Kitchen & Bar Restaurant Review

: Lee Ellis’ Cherry Pie Hospitality includes in its growing restaurant empire this Memorial-area eatery focusing on local ingredients and far-from-fancy recipes. Bring an appetite and chow down on some Texas red beef chili, served in a bowl, as a Frito pie or atop some cheesy fries. Bourbon butter-topped roasted oysters are another notable dish, although we always start a meal with the lip-puckering dill pickle dip and house-made barbecue chips. Salads and sandwiches are as big as the Lone Star State, and there are several mac ‘n cheese plates from which to choose, and one extols short ribs and roasted shallots. Wine, craft cocktails and desserts from Ellis’ Petite Sweets shop round out the meal. The little ones have a special menu that brings partitioned metal plates reminiscent of TV dinner trays. All in all, it’s a fun and filling experience.
