THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sura Thai Bistro Restaurant Review:

With its white, Jetsons-like atmosphere---think pod-like swinging chairs, red and silver columns, spaceship-style seating---and in-house DJ spinning hip-hop and house music, it would be easy to dismiss Sura Thai Bistro as yet another trendy wannabe. Don’t. While this modern Asian eatery does work the funky décor angle---the owners also claim NYC hotspots Peep, Sea and Spice---this Lakeview restaurant has the eats to back it up. The menu focuses mostly on Thai-inspired tapas with lots of playful touches. That translates to fried calamari---crisp, not greasy---with an avocado-green dipping sauce and crunchy lotus root chips as well as signature rolls, like the Mona Lisa maki with smoked salmon, spicy tuna, cream cheese, masago, avocado and tamago in soy paper. Meanwhile, tender Hung-Lea steak is cut into strips and stacked three high. Those who don’t want to share can opt for larger plates, such as braised duck in Pinot Noir sauce or macadamia nut-crusted salmon. Regular dining and drink specials lure a happy hour crowd.
