Sushi & Sake Restaurant Review:

Adding to the confusion caused by such a generic moniker is the fact that this strip-mall storefront’s Nob Hill sibling goes by the name of Korean B.B.Q. House and Sushi & Sake. But at least the owners come by their branding problem honestly: the giant menu lists a number of Korean classics alongside dozens upon dozens of Japanese comforts and American revisions thereof. On the one side, there’s kalbi, bibimbap and chapchae; on the other, tempura, katsu and, of course, a dizzying array of nigiri and maki --- nearly 100 selections in all. We’re talking everything from purist-approved white tuna and red clam to kitsch like pizza and green-chile rolls; what we’re not talking is uncompromising technique --- but that’s mostly okay. With rock-lined walls, a colorfully tiled sushi bar and scattering of rice-paper lanterns, the snug venue and its composed staff keep kids content with teriyaki, their parents steeped in saké, and everybody ready for a bite of mochi at meal’s end. Albuquerque is still feeling its way around Asian cuisines, so there’s little point in asking for more. The aforementioned outpost is located at 3200 Central Ave. SE, 505-338-2424.
