THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Toulouse An American Bistro Restaurant Review:
One of our favorite escapes, fine for an impromptu romantic dinner or a quiet glass of wine at the bar, is this loft-like space that features gleaming wood floors and an open kitchen. Athens, Georgia, artist Steve Penley has his gloriously biographical portraits of famous people and his florals throughout the spaces. Expect mainly comfort food, such as, in cold weather, the country potato soup with its dollop of mashed potatoes. This dish is without peer, and could not be removed from the menu without howls of protest. Then choose the pork loin, the buffalo meatloaf, the lamb shank or the oven-roasted chicken for a main dish. Vegetarians will go for the grilled vegetables, which may be adorned with grilled shrimp or goat cheese. In the spring, you might find strawberry soup, while the cashew-crusted tuna, served medium rare, is a summer inducement. Another attraction here is the ability to sample by-the-glass wines before choosing, and each menu item is paired with a wine. Moreover, on Sunday, bring your own wine and enjoy it without paying a corkage fee. The restaurant is entirely non-smoking, but smokers may engage the few outdoor tables.
