The Turn House Restaurant Review:
The Turn House is a casual restaurant featuring a spacious dining area with multiple fireplaces as well as patio seating, both with views of Hobbit’s Glen golf course. Executive chef/owner Thomas Zippelli returned to his native Maryland to open his own establishment after years working at Eleven Madison Park and The French Laundry. Menus are driven by locally sourced products and ingredients, so they evolve regularly. Dinner selections entice with shareable options like pimento cheese dip and the meats and cheese slate. Small plates include crab salad, burrata with fig preserves and beef tartare. Not your ordinary steak frites, the kitchen’s 60-days dry-aged Wagyu New York strip with herb butter and au poivre sauce will bring a smile to the face of a diehard carnivore, as does the striped bass to a pescatarian. Chef Zippelli shows off his Italian heritage with pastas and gnocchi, with variations to fit the season. Sommelier Tim White populates the wine list with 90 bottles, from the familiar Kendall-Jackson to labels not found in any retail shop, some with limited allotments. The in-house bakery supplies the bread and desserts, and creates custom cakes.
