THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Ventana Restaurant Restaurant Review:

With views of Puget Sound and a thoughtful menu of small plates, Ventana---which appropriately means "window" in Spanish---is one of Belltown’s favorite haunts and a happy hour hot-spot with cocktails like the bacon Bloody Mary. Although the bar is hip and busy, tables along the windows invite an intimate dinner. Chef Joseph Conrad, formerly of Qube and with credentials from Chicago’s Charlie Trotter’s, offers a brief menu of seasonally inspired New American small plates. Truffle fries with just the right balance of truffle oil and garlic are a must. So is the fried duck egg, prepared with melted leeks and herb-seasoned breadcrumbs. Dishes are designed for sharing, so why are there only three tender pork spareribs brushed with a luscious pomegranate glaze? A generous portion of Brussels sprouts, fried then sautéed in brown butter, lemon and white anchovies, meets the sharing test much better. The surprise in the center of Ventana’s signature burger is a chili relleno and melted cheese. Desserts include a clever contemporary riff on red velvet cake and fragrant, although somewhat dry, cardamom donut holes.
