Upscale Tex-Mex with a creative menu of Mexican-inspired dishes along with the usual suspects sets Zócola apart from the crowd. Mexican meatloaf infused with roasted poblano peppers is a stand-out, smothered in queso and served with green chili mashed potatoes it's a hearty, piquant meal for the truly hungry. Ditto the chicken-fried steak, which may be ordered hangover-helper style with queso and ranchero sauce instead of cream gravy. On the lighter side, lettuce tacos are a refreshing take on traditional tacos. Lettuce taco shells are stuffed with chicken, shrimp, vegetables or beef, salsa and a tangy, creamy chili sauce. Oyster nachos are a hit for starters as is the salsa-smothered oven-baked goat cheese. Leave room to at least share the cajeta bread pudding, a dense bread pudding with caramel sauce and cinnamon ice cream.
