Slimane: An Angel with a Voice at the 2024 Summer Paris Olympic Games

July 2024

I literally flew twice from Los Angeles to France to listen to French singer Slimane. The first time was in Le Mans — and it was not for The 24 Hours of Le Mans. The second concert was in the south of France in Nîmes — and it was not for a visit to Les Arènes (a Roman amphitheater, built around 100 CE, one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world). It was only for his voice.

To be truthful, the wings on Slimane are the ones of Cupidon, but his words in his music deliver so much love and passion, that for me they are the ones of an angel. Listening to Slimane brings light to the heart.

All his life has been about music. At a very young age, Slimane started writing music and putting words to it, words about his life. That is why his songs are so touching and vitalizing. It could well be our life. Add his voice and the results are vibrant and enthusiastic minutes of sounds in each of his chansons. They are the type you rewind in your head. And soon enough, you know all the words and will be singing along.

After a YouTube channel, some gigs here and there (and don’t get me wrong, some were big), in 2016 Slimane won The Voice. From there it has been a constant ascension from Platinum and Diamants records to sold-out concerts. On December 31, 2023, he sang on the Champs-Élysées during the New Year’s celebration. In May 2024, he represented France at the Concours Eurovision de la chanson 2024. He made it to fourth place (out of twenty-five competitors) with his beautiful “Mon Amour,” an apology to love, even singing a capella for thirty seconds. I don’t want to be biased, but I think he should have won. Let’s not forget to mention his intoxicating smile…

Another of his successes: La Recette

On July 26, 2024, Slimane performed at the pre-opening ceremony of the Olympics at a symphonic concert with fifty musicians, for some thirty minutes. Another way to honor and recognize the talent of Slimane.

The concert was free. It took place in front of the Basilique de Saint-Denis around 4:30 p.m. (All but five of the kings of France were buried in the basilica.)

On June 14, 2024, Slimane launched his new title “Résister.” It is about peace, love and living together under one sky; a progressive song dedicated to the children of the world.

But the true strength of this launch is that Slimane, who is Muslim, sang in front of Notre-Dame de Paris, a world-wide symbol of Christianity. And, read in between the prose and you will understand, that it is a reference to what is happening in the Middle East.

Thank you, Slimane, for this strong and emphatic message of unity.

If you cannot fly to France, Slimane will step foot in North America at these dates:

February 21, 2025 – Québec, Canada
February 22, 2025 – Montréal, Canada
February 23, 2025 – New York City, New York
February 26, 2025 – Miami, Florida.

Hopefully, there will be other dates and locations to come, so Slimane can spread his motivational message of concord and harmony to more people.

Take the time to listen to it below. It is the full version of “Résister” from the concert in Nîmes.
