Bob Sykes Bar-B-Q Restaurant Review:

Three generations after establishing the restaurant, the Sykes family still cooks palate-pleasing barbecue the old-fashioned way in a brick pit. Gaze into the pit as you stroll in, order at the counter, and sink into a booth or choose a table. In 1957 Bob Sykes built his first pit and began cooking the barbecue of his Tennessee childhood. Pork or ribs star, but there’s chicken, smoked turkey and smoked ham as well. If decision making is hard, try one of the combo plates with two meats. Juicy hamburgers and smoked ham sandwiches are also tasty. We like crispy onion rings, crunchy slaw or baked beans as sides. French fries are particularly good, and there’s potato salad or corn on the cob. On Tuesdays, Bob Sykes makes barbecue tacos enfolding the smoked meat into house-made tortillas. Don’t leave without a slice of pie --- go for the lemon meringue; we’re betting the recipe for it may be more than 50 years old. Chocolate, coconut and pecan pie, in season, along with red velvet cake, round out the sweet side.
