Granada Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Also called Granada Café for short, this Herndon establishment underscores how diverse the local dining population has become: the Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant serves dishes that originate in Syria, Iraq, Morocco, Turkey, Greece and Lebanon. It’s hard to say where to begin, though the obvious choice is a scoop of the creamy hummus with a well in the center filled with olive oil and sprinkled with za’atar, served with hot bread. As for main courses, that depends on the time of day. For lunch, go with the beef shwarma sandwich: thin slices of beef wrapped in flatbread and seasoned with crunchy pickles and tahini. But the various tagines (rich stews) and grilled meats have their own appeal. Don’t skip past desserts, though some of them may be totally unfamiliar. Yes, you can find a Syrian baklava, but experiment with a nablus knafeh, a cheesecake-like sweet of a cheese filling sandwiched between shredded pastry. Beverages include tea and Turkish coffee.
