LG's Prime Steakhouse Restaurant Review:

“LG” stands for Leon Greenberg, who founded the popular steakhouse after his careers as a state trooper, owner of a retail chain, insurance agent and Ava Gardner's bodyguard. During his twilight years he added restaurateur to that list with the opening of LG’s Prime Steakhouse in 1991. With two locations, La Quinta and downtown Palm Springs, LG’s offers nine different USDA Prime steaks that are dry-aged right on the premises. The meat sizzles on the plate, and releases a bouquet of juices and flavors. The "Gold Strike" 49'er, an ample 30-ounce porterhouse, can be shared among three people. The black-and-blue steak is nicely charred on the outside and, as expected, has a cool center and is tender on the inside. There's also fresh fish, lobster tail, king crab legs and poultry dishes. Try the Caesar salad for two, which is prepared tableside. A rotating selection of treats is presented via a dessert cart --- consider the silky crème brûlée and vanilla bean ice cream from McConnell's in Santa Barbara. The restaurant features a full bar and an extensive wine list with selections mainly from California’s Central Coast and Napa Valley, including a Double Magnum 2003 Duckhorn Cabernet. A special summer menu proves to be a bit lighter on both the palate and wallet.
