Miku Restaurant Review:

Miku, which means ”beautiful sky" in Japanese, is on Vancouver's waterfront next to Canada Place and offers prime cruise ship viewing in season. The glossy urban location is in the city’s business district, boasting hand-painted murals by Japanese artisans and a wraparound patio. One of Miku’s specialties is aburi-style nigiri sushi, lightly flame-seared and infused with savory French-style sauces. Another is oshi, an Osaka-style pressed sushi, each piece layered with savory sauce-infused rice and topped with mackerel or sockeye salmon. Contemporary rolls tempt; the Red Wave is crab and avocado wrapped in red tuna. Omakase is always another option, delivering a selection of trademark dishes. Or start with the Coal Harbour platter loaded with sashimi, or fresh oysters, mussels, jumbo prawns and kaisen poke, scallop ceviche and kale goma-ae. Desserts may include green tea opera cake, a sponge cake with chocolate ganache served with green tea ice cream. For lunch, order the Mikuzen, Miku's seasonally changing Chef's Box. The cocktail list, with a creative Caesar containing wasabi, is unusual for an Asian restaurant. There’s also an extensive saké selection and well-chosen Japanese food-friendly wines that include sparklers, Rieslings, Chenin Blancs and un-oaked Chardonnays. Service is casual, relaxed and welcoming.
