It's
a long-standing belief that all work and no play makes
Jack a dull boy. That's what destinations like the Sawgrass
Marriott Resort & Beach Club are for. It may be home
to 46,000+ square feet of meeting space, including Tournament
Hall, which can house up to 60 booths, but it's also surrounded
by 99 holes of championship golf.
Water
plays an important role at the resort. Along with lakes,
three pools and the adjacent ocean, waterfalls cascade
in the lobby and around the whirlpools. Water provides
a soothing backdrop to almost every activity on offer,
from beach volleyball to tennis to golf. The lakes are
interwoven throughout the grounds and the resort's own
Pete Dye-designed TPC Stadium Course, which is home to
the PGA Tour's annual The Players Championship and the
famous Island Green at 17. The resort attract its fair
share of conventioneers with its ballrooms, boardrooms
and outdoor banquet venues, but it is known foremost for
its smooth golf set-up. Along with the Stadium fairways,
guests have access to the resort's TPC Valley Course and
the nearby Marsh Landing, Oakbridge and Sawgrass Country
Clubs.
With
its rolling lawns and 2 1/2 miles of Atlantic shoreline,
the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Beach Club feels like
a seaside park. Interspersed throughout this bucolic setting
are a variety of accommodations. Along with 508 rooms
and suites in the hotel, there are also condo-like villas
on or near the golf course and one- to three-bedroom villas
on the beach. The latter work well for families as they
have kitchens, fireplaces, full dining rooms and screened
decks. Continual, discreet upgrades keep the hotel looking
fresh and stylish. A collection of suites, for example,
has been given a French and Mediterranean-inspired facelift,
as well as ergonomic desk chairs and 27-inch TVs. Taking
into account the heavy conference clientele, all accommodations
come with plenty of business amenities, such as high-speed
Internet access, voice mail, data ports and work desks.

In
some ways, the Sawgrass Marriott Beach Resort & Club
is like its own village, with seven restaurants and lounges
to choose from. Its signature venue is The Augustine Grille,
serving seafood, steak and chops. In stiff competition
for popularity is Ocean View, featuringwhat else?views
of the ocean from its dining room. Café on the
Green offers American fare overlooking the 13th hole of
the TPC Stadium Course, and the 100th Hole provides beverages
and snacks poolside. Live entertainment and dancing takes
place nightly in the Champs Lounge.
For
travelers seeking a casual vacation or a laid-back place
to host a wedding, conference or golf retreat, the Sawgrass
Marriott Beach Resort & Club is a one-stop work and
play destination.
