by Sophie Gayot At the stroke of midnight on Friday, August 22, the SLS Las Vegas hotel opened its doors — after a massive five-minute fireworks display, that is. Eight years ago, Sam Nazarian’s sbe company took over the legendary Sahara Hotel on the north end of The Strip, which for decades played host to Sin City‘s biggest stars. Some $415 million dollars in renovations later, the original three towers have each received a major facelift, all under the direction of design icon Philippe Starck. Some of high-end suites within the 1,600 room complex have gone even further, outfitted with an exclusive collection from erstwhile musician Lenny Kravitz. Meanwhile, the always-creative chef José Andrés serves as the property’s culinary director, bringing the entire property — from the casino floor to the dining rooms to the penthouse suites — under the complete direction of Sam Nazarian and his sbe empire.
