1200 Miles Restaurant Review

: The Flatiron District’s 1200 Miles is not an anti-locavore eatery, referencing the number of miles in which the kitchen fetches its ingredients. Instead, the number refers to the amount of miles between Paris and Algiers, thus suggesting the range of culinary cultures that inspire the kitchen. So, your palate might pass through Spain via the fideos, a casserole crammed with chorizo, mussels and duck confit; or France with the tender roast Guinea hen accented by a foie gras crisp. There are also some cultural mash-ups, such as the seared sea scallops served with saffron-laced fennel and Sicilian pistachios. Those same pistachios find themselves in the espresso-chocolate parfait on the dessert menu. If all this travel is making your head spin, think of the menu as Mediterranean, which is basically what it is. The wine list deviates from the geographical parameters and includes decent selections from California and Argentina.
