: In a region that houses the world’s largest naval station, it’s not surprising that a breakfast-all-day joint called Anchor Allie’s with menu items christened The Admiral, The Starboard and the Blue Angel would be popular. But beyond the patriotic, nautical theme that defines the food and décor, Allie’s lures them in with good, honest fare given creative twists, reasonable prices and a staff that makes the families and friends packing the tables and booths feel like, well, family and friends. “The Cruiser,” a three-egg omelet emblazoned with fresh-baked apples, Brie and a drizzle of caramel accompanied by yogurt and French bread is emblematic of Allie’s flair. Sandwiches, such as The Aviator, hot pastrami, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion and balsamic vinaigrette on a ciabatta bun, are crowd-pleasers as are salads like the Keel Lime Shrimp, mating chilled lime shrimp with avocado, cucumbers, orange slices, dried cranberries and fresh greens, saluted by a poppy seed dressing. Burgers, tacos and burritos do service here, too, and all pair well with a corps of mimosas and other fun cocktails. Fried Oreo sundae for dessert will float your boat, even if it sinks your diet.
