Taking its very special brand of Texas eats into the heart of Rockville, Austin Grill seems to have tamped down its flavors and made itself more mainstream. That’s a pity, because such dishes as its Texas chili once upon a time would send spirals of heat off your forehead. Otherwise, look for fairly standard Southwest/Tex-Mex fare, from the starter nachos of various types, to the grill dishes---ribs, skirt steak, tuna, chicken---and the typical burrito, enchilada, taco and fajita offerings. If it’s available, you should try the Caballero Quesadillas with skirt steak and mashed potatoes or the sweet chili chicken taco with applewood-smoked bacon. Desserts are on target, and the Key lime pie is what it’s all about.
