THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Avalon Diner II Restaurant Review:

For 60 years, Avalon Diner has given its fans what they want---good, old-fashioned diner food served at a charming lunch counter. It's no different at this newer version in the upscale West U area. Fans still flock to this nostalgic nod to the 1940s and 50s, complete with chrome, neon and checkered tiled floors. Only this spot is donned with large photos of patrons, who all seem to be cheerleaders. To the standard egg starters found in any diner, Avalon adds a few Texas touches, namely a chicken fried steak with eggs and the local favorite, migas---eggs scrambled with tortilla chips, serrano peppers, onions and tomatoes. Omelets are standard, too, with only five versions offered. For a real treat, try the pigs in a blanket, three link sausages rolled in hot cakes. The lunch bunch clamors for the old-fashioned burgers that put Avalon on the map in the early part of the twentieth century. Not surprisingly, this diner also offers club sandwiches, patty melts, pimento cheese sandwiches and hot open-faced roast beef sandwiches, but some non-traditional diner offerings are also available on the eclectic menu. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you bypassed the fountain aspect of this diner. How long has it been since you had a malt, whipped up and delivered to you in the mixing can?
