Step into this intimate restaurant, and cookbooks by wine racks reveal that a passionate culinarian is in residence. Try crispy pork belly twice cooked and drizzled with cranberry Cabernet barbecue sauce, and the complexity of tastes communicates that the passion is paired with serious training. Indeed, chef-owner Jeffrey Baird, after cooking at Comfort, purchased Avenue 805. He’s maintained much of the inherited menu, including some of its pasta permutations, but he has added his own touches. Signature Chicken 805 dresses chicken breast with Fontina, sautéed spinach and marinated portobello. He fosters a sense of community, making the eatery the kind of place for the neighbors on Grace and Monument to frequent. One other thing retained: Cheap Date Nights. On Monday and Tuesday, a three-course dinner served family-style and a bottle of wine can be had for $35.
