Avenue Restaurant Review:
Avenue’s room is vast and white, enlivened with red banquettes, with a bar at the front that leads into the restaurant behind. It goes from being very noisy in the early evening to the odd dead time, though the ever-changing art on the walls always provides a good talking point particularly among the art dealers who frequent the place. The kitchen concentrates on fresh ingredients and seasonal dishes --- a summer chilled tomato and watermelon soup, followed by roast bream with crushed new potatoes, crème fraîche, courgettes and an unusual lemon grass sauce. Desserts go traditional: everyone must try the Eton mess in summer, a much more attractive dish than its name would suggest. Overall, Avenue is a good meeting place and the bar serves a range of small plates. Set lunch menu, 2 courses £19.50, 3 courses £23.50.
