High Noon Restaurant & Saloon Restaurant Review:
Hammy tourism-themed restaurants get most of the attention in the heart of Albuquerque’s Old Town Plaza. But locals know that for New Mexican food and light gourmet, High Noon Restaurant & Saloon is the place to take out-of-town guests for an authentic meal that leaves enough money in your pocket for post-dinner shopping. It’s known for its prime steaks, but the menu combines old favorites --- think enchiladas and steak salads --- with a slight twist to every dish, like the unique beef barbacoa enchiladas. An off-the-menu tip is to ask for a fried egg on top of anything. Watch your head when you step through the two-foot-thick adobe doorway. The 250-year-old hacienda has stayed true to form for decades, which means low ceilings, adobe bancos for booths, and Western, though not cowboy-style, dining rooms. Don’t let the grocery store selection of craft beers turn you off. Beer isn’t this hideaway’s specialty; it’s tequila. High Noon boasts 49 tequilas that range from $5.50 to $18, plus margaritas that have the same quirks as the menu. To wit: the jalapeño-infused margarita that, while refreshing, definitely has a kick.
