Pizzeria Portofino Awards
Chicago riverfront eatery serves up hand-stretched pizzas and a view.
Pizzeria Portofino Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: The team behind RPM Restaurants (RPM Italian, RPM Steak) brought a scene-stealing restaurant to Chicago's riverfront. And boy, come summer, it's one smashing place to people watch. If you're lucky enough to snag a patio table, you'll be entertained by the boats cruising by. Indoors is just as cheerful with the doors swung open, a color palette of lemon and white, and a low-hung ceiling that create nautical, endless summertime appeal.
strong>Likes: Why, the waterfront, of course? A close second? The spritzes.
Dislikes: The restaurant doesn't take cash.
Food & Drinks: Pizzeria Portofino serves hand-stretched pizzas, vegetable antipasti and artisan pastas. The tomato caprese and white tuna bruschetta are worthy light fare. Perfectly blistered crust is admirable on pizzas like the Due Funghi, easily conquerable in one sitting. Don't skip the grilled seafood, especially the meaty Portuguese octopus. End on a dainty note with Sicilian pistachio gelato or a zesty Venetian spritz. Wine lovers will embrace the coastal Mediterranean and Super Tuscan selections.
