Whistle Stop Diner Restaurant Review:

Located next door to a former train station in the Depot section of Birmingham, the Whistle Stop fills with families, joggers, couples with newspapers and young singles, especially on Sundays when they flock for homemade bread that's made in its bakery, along with omelets, blueberry pancakes and crispy hash browns. The mega-breakfasts are quite good. Weekend specials include creative endeavors, such as breakfast egg rolls and variations of french toast, including bananas Foster and cinnamon roll. Few can resist sharing a piece of freshly baked pie or chocolate cake or picking up a loaf or two of piping hot bread to take home. At lunchtime, there’s a basic hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, house-made chicken noodle soup, a BLT or the Whistle Stop club. The children's menu features similar fare but in smaller portions, such as pancakes, chicken strips and fries. Coffee, as one would hope, is free-flowing and just-brewed.
