Ysabel Restaurant Review:

From Phil Howard and Dean McKillen, the folks behind the popular Laurel Hardware store-turned-restaurant, comes Ysabel, a lovely dining retreat of mid-century modern style. After entering through an unmarked corridor off Fairfax Avenue, guests encounter an al fresco lounge area and a wide marble staircase offering tiered bench seating and an elevated alcove. It's a cool space to get the evening started or to linger longer. The central patio, flanked by two bars, beckons with light-strewn trees and candlelit tables. Creative craft cocktails are made with ingredients such as bell pepper and Thai chili. Meanwhile, the bill of fare offers a contemporary American experience. Indulge in the grilled cheese sandwich accompanied by charred tomato velouté, or keep things light with an heirloom beet salad or tuna crudo. Among the several pasta options, diners may find hand-cut pappardelle with Italian truffles. The menu continues with grilled octopus with lentils, peppers, olives and garlic, and pan-seared branzino with black rice, salsify and melted leeks. Treat yourself to profiteroles or bread pudding for dessert.
