THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Azhang Restaurant Review:

This is a one-man and one-woman show where the owner cum cook, Patrick, helms the kitchen and co-owner, Eva, takes the orders and sweetens your meals with homemade desserts. The cuisine here is neither typically continental nor Mediterranean and, in fact, it does not toe the typical Peranakan (Straits Chinese) line either. But make no mistake, the food here is not fusion. Start with a shared serving of the unique roast corn salad; the corn is open-roasted until slightly charred, its kernels are tossed with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, cilantro, scallions, onions and tomatoes in a dressing spiced with green chilies, then served warm with lettuces. Next on the hit list is calamari: one whole squid basted in red wine, grilled over an open flame and served on a bed of aromatic pilaf with Peranakan-style salsa on the side. If you have a healthy appetite for seafood, go with the seafood platter instead, which comes with one whole calamari, two full-size shrimps and a slab of salmon belly. Meat lovers need not despair. The rib of lamb is char-grilled with a honey glaze until golden brown; the meat is tender and juicy, with a hint of sweetness. Azhang’s 50-plus wine labels are a good balance of old-world (France, Italy and Spain) and new-world (Australia, New Zealand, U.S., Germany, South Africa and Chile) wines. End with any of Eva’s desserts, perhaps a semifreddo or tiramisu.
