Bac Nam Restaurant Review:
Don't come here for anything as ordinary as pho. Visit for some of the less typical choices like banh cuon, steamed rice rolls stuffed with minced pork and woodear mushrooms topped with house-made cha lua (think of it as the Vietnamese version of mortadella); or bo nuong la lot trang, grilled beef wrapped in wild betel leaves and served with a pungent shrimp-based dipping sauce that incorporates garlic and pineapple in a curiously purple-tinged paste. Stuffed squid and tamarind shrimp are must-try dishes as well. If you want to indulge in the Vietnamese-style curries which can be made as spicy-hot as you want, go for the vermicelli noodles or French baguette rather than rice as an accompaniment.
