Baja Mexican Cantina distinguishes itself from the pool of kitschy Back Bay Mexican spots by making their predictable border grub with some admirably fresh ingredients. Fajitas and quesadillas are what you’d expect. Spicy Caesar salad is interesting, if not quite as hot as could be; toasted corn and jalape-o potato bisque is innovative, yet ultimately a failure; and chiles rellenos would be memorable if the kitchen deleted the stringy chicken. Forgo the absent-minded dining room staff and sit at the bar. The margaritas arrive much faster and there’s a pleasant neighborhood vibe.
