THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Barrow's Catfish & Seafood Restaurant Restaurant Review:
HURRICANE KATRINA: this establishment is currently closed. For a New Orleans Travel Update as well as resources, information and help click here. This offbeat location, a recycled Asian restaurant surrounded by sleepy storefronts, indicates nothing of the delight that awaits within---cayenne-pricked catfish, pan-fried to a turn, golden the color of dried corn and so hot you have to eat the buttered toast first. This offspring of the longstanding Orleans Parish catfish house Barrow's Shady Inn is well-washed and Windexed. And while the spoken menu at the original Barrow's includes only catfish, the menu in Harvey is Ulysses in comparison, offering slab ribs, gumbo, crawfish pasta and cheesecake. The Half & Half, a blend of sweet tea and puckery lemonade served in familiar oversized snifter glasses, is as bewildering as it is good: A perfectly refreshing beverage, it somehow leaves you aching with thirst.
