When Battambang opened in 1993, it was one of only a handful of dinner spots in downtown Oakland and the area's only Cambodian outpost. Now the environs are filled with exciting restaurants of all stripes, but Battambang is still a standout. Try the refreshing green papaya salad packed with fresh herbs, crab with spicy coconut sauce, pan-fried Battambang noodles, and banana fritters.
