Beast Restaurant Review:

This Prospect Heights tapas spot is not as beastly as it sounds. In fact, with stained glass, a classic tile floor, and a thick wooden bar to cozy up to, Beast is downright welcoming. The menu is categorized by Ocean, Earth, and Land & Sky. The Blue Point Lager-braised short ribs are tender and on the tasteless side, but are saved by the creamy mashed potatoes in which they wade; sautéed calamari is nicely cooked, accompanied by tomato, arugula and roasted garlic. For an appetizer, the fried manchego cheese bits explode with flavor but the black-bean hummus tastes like neither black beans nor hummus. The wine list, naturally, focuses on Spain and a dozen or so beers on tap are mostly of the American microbrew variety.
