THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Big Buck Brewery & Steakhouse Restaurant Review:
The Big Buck Brewery and Steakhouse, with three locations in Michigan, is a true Wolverine State experience. (Yes, there is a new location in Grapevine, Texas, but for once its Texas catching up with us Northerners in a trend.) Big Buck in Auburn Hills was the scene of a recent family reunion we attended, and its safe to say a dozen family reunions our size could have fit into the mammoth place with room left for a few deuces as well. Everything about the restaurant is larger than life, from the massive log-based bar, to the multi-paged menu, to the gigantic beer bottle that marks the Big Buck spot above northbound I-75 at the Auburn Hills exit. A wide array of food is offered on the menu, and as skeptical as you may be that Big Bucks crab cakes, beer cheese soup, chicken and artichoke pasta, pecan-encrusted salmon and filet mignon are all worthwhile, its true. At the reunion, 14 of us had 10 different entrées, and practically no one was disappointed. In fact, the Maryland crab Cakes are among the best weve sampled recently: Virtually no filler---just mighty fine lump crab meat, seasoned and sautéed to perfection. Only the BBQ ribs were less than the best, but then you know how each persons idea of rib perfection is different. These were slathered with an over-spiced, over-sticky, over-red sauce, with no chance of the rib flavor coming through. Its safe to say that theres something for everyone on this bill of fare, especially if youre a carnivore. Five cuts of beef plus buffalo make it a worthy destination if youre in the mood for meat. And, we havent even mentioned the on-site microbrewery with a number of good beers to sample and enjoy.
