A cobbled courtyard set quietly above the bustle of Manayunk, is the setting for some of the best fish and seafood in Philadelphia. Fish fancier Bill Shapiro brings a lot of love and invention to his no-frills restaurant. The playful marine murals and aquariums that dot the room lighten the barn-like atmosphere, but the food here is definitely the thing. In these surroundings, kids might really learn to have a taste for fish. Count on a daily selection of fresh oysters, and everything from calamari to lobster prepared with Shapiro’s own twists-perhaps some Asian or Moroccan seasonings that can be complemented with a crisp white wine. Other dishes are straightforward and call for a beer. For dessert, we suggest the warm apple crisp.
