As the times have changed, sliver-like eateries like Bodhi Café take on added importance. That’s because dependable meals, worth buying more than once a week, are hard to come by. At Bodhi Café the coffee is freshly roasted, soups range from squash to chowder and are all well-seasoned, and the sandwiches are piled high with everything from black pepper turkey to sweet peppers and hummus. Take-out is the main business here, but there’s a softness to the lighting and a moodiness owed to the Duke-era jazz (with occasional Stan Getz intrusions) to be found in the omnipresent music. If it feels like the kind of place worth lingering with a magazine, that’s because the ownership is the same as another staple of life in the Back Bay, Trident Café across the street. A welcome neighborhood addition in an area that’s often thought of as hard to access.
