The mothership of Tony and Ann Chemannoor's expanding domain of Indian restaurants looks a bit tired these days. Perhaps this old mid-towner's been working too hard to keep up with her progeny. Service can be scattered and the food inconsistent. But her latest offspring, the jr. in the clan, is coming on strong with a suburban location, spiffy interior, and amenities like outdoor seating in summer. The menu's straight-up northern Indian, making it the place to head for your basic tandooris and tikkas. But we wish mom a speedy recovery, so that we can once again enjoy the endearing charms of her homey embrace and resolutely downtown crowd.
