THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Brass Cap Restaurant Review:

Chef-owner Bruce Marder, from Capo in Santa Monica, has ventured a little north of the city. Closer to the ocean, right on the other side of the famed Pacific Coast Highway, he has taken over the space left by the defunct Beach House. We've always liked this casual yet chic spot near the Palisades that Marder has refreshed with mirrors over the banquettes and fun modern art all around the room. If you happen to be sitting next to the realistic painting of the swimming kois, every time you lift your head up you are expecting the fish to have gone away. Marder emphasizes farmers market produce in his brasserie dishes. Expect to find a cheesy onion soup, a beet salad with endive and blue cheese, heirloom tomato with delicious burrata, and tuna tartare or ceviche for appetizers. Bypass the pastas in favor of the crispy rack of lamb or the boeuf bourguignon with pommes purée. The fresh seafood, sold at market price, can be prepared with loup de mer, filet of sole or halibut. Don't miss the hot apple tart for dessert or the chocolate cake. Action is also happening at the bar, which is a great spot to sample the wines or other drinks.
