This bagelteria---with huge windows and lots of cozy booths---has the look, feel, and smell of a New York deli. The walls are covered with amateur paintings, reworkings of oeuvres by the likes of Renoir, Hals, and Munch: all have bagels playing starring rolls (pun intended). The long counter case is filled with so much deli fare you’ll need to sample things to decide what you want. Breakfasts---a bagel and fixin's, eggs just about any way you want ’em, and a bottomless cup of coffee---are good deals here. Lunches are, too. The soups---hearty barley-mushroom, split pea and delicious matzo ball---are homemade. The piled-high-and-wide bagelwiches---bestsellers are chicken and tuna salad, egg salad, and salami---are huge. Really hungry folks boost them to meal status (with slaw or potato salad) for an additional buck. For afters, split a huge peanut butter cookie---they go fast, so get it when you order---or a rich and gooey coconut macaroon. Open only until 6 p.m. Saturday-Monday, and 7 p.m. Wednesday-Friday.
