THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Brown Derby Restaurant Review:
This restaurant opposite the iconic Palace Theatre is an homage to the original Hollywood Brown Derby, right down to the show biz caricatures, cozy banquettes, smoked glass and dark wood. Chef Brian Molino’s menu includes General Tso's sweetbreads, bacon-applejack escargots and truffle Parmesan fries. The Derby Clam Tower (littleneck clams with sausage, lobster, shrimp, crab, piquillo peppers and seasonings) is particularly imaginative. "Derby Classics" include a prime rib trilogy (rib, scallop-and-shrimp brochette, and crab cake). For dessert, we recommend the tart and creamy grapefruit layer cake. From the heavily-California wine list, 20-plus among the 120 labels are available by the glass. A $12 weekday buffet lunch is available, part of an overall reduction in prices.
