Buddy V's Ristorante Restaurant Review:
Buddy V’s Ristorante has décor featuring wood flooring mixed with subway tile; shelves stacked with pasta, tomatoes and oil over the open kitchen; collections of rolling pins and cake pans; and a display of cakes fashioned into replicas of menu items, which attests to the artistry for which Buddy Valastro is famous. The menu is a tribute to the Valastro family, with heirloom recipes used for dishes such as Valastro Sunday Gravy --- meatballs, sausage, lamb, pork and rigatoni; Grandma’s Recipe meatballs with tomato ragù and pecorino; and Nonna’s Lasagna Al Forno --- a five-inch mound of sausage, beef, pork, ricotta, mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan. Italian flair can be found in the Steak Pizzaiolo, which is a New York strip with red bell peppers, tomato, mushrooms, Grana Padano and polenta. We also like the sea scallops, served with herbed brown butter, capers and mashed potatoes. Be sure to ask for the dessert menu, if for no other reason than to enjoy the family photographs that accompany each item’s description. Try the Italian birthday cake: rum-soaked sponge cake, cannoli filling, chocolate pastry cream and toasted almond; or Buddy’s XL Lobster Tail, the same custard cream-filled pastry shell sold at the famed Carlo’s Bakery in New Jersey.
