Bulgarini Gelato Restaurant Review:
Leo Bulgarini and wife Elizabeth Foldi followed their passion for gelato to Italy, where they spent two years hunting for a mentor. They found him in a Sicilian village. Two months later, equipped with generations-old knowledge, the couple returned to Altadena and began making market-driven gelato, selling it from a cart in Pasadena: at Caltech, the Laemmle Playhouse 7 and in the courtyard of the Pacific Asia Museum. In 2007, Bulgarini and Foldi graduated to a fixed location in the back of an Altadena strip mall. With more space, they’re able to produce a larger roster of flavors, like distinctive Fragola (strawberry), Zabaglione (custard and Marsala wine), Cremadi Caffè (coffee cream), and even refreshing Arancia Rossa (blood orange) granita. They also offer traditional Italian flavors like Stracciatella and several varieties of chocolate.
