THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe des Amis du Vin Restaurant Review:
Although one of the oldest wine bars in London, it’s a smart place with a contemporary décor that attracts the theatre and opera crowd as well as visitors to the capital. The wide-ranging menu is a real mix and match, taking in the likes of French onion soup, steak tartare, and warm duck confit salad with pomegranate seeds and balsamic as starters. Classic mains run from rib-eye steak with peppercorn sauce to seared scallops with crab risotto and caper butter sauce. Desserts might include a classic crème brûlée, and a luscious soup au chocolat with black pepper ice cream. Downstairs, you'll find the brasserie patronised by much of the chorus and orchestra from the neighbouring Royal Opera House, particularly as it stays open to 1am. They also serve afternoon tea and do a Sunday roast at 2 courses for £15.
