THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe Metropol Restaurant Review:
Hip Angelenos are always looking for an artsy café (in the anti-Starbucks genre), and Café Metropol, located in the Artists District, just east of Little Tokyo, qualifies. Breakfast is highlighted by croissant sandwiches and vanilla-almond pain perdu. Later in the day, “ultra thin” pizzas come topped with pepperoni, but you’re better off ordering the Formaggi, with porcini, shiitake, portobello and white button mushrooms. The best sandwich is the Marceaux, topped with roasted garlic, goat cheese and prosciutto di Parma. Pasta is served at dinner only; order lobster ravioli with saffron-zucchini sauce, or roasted chicken ravioli with vodka sauce. To drink, there are espresso concoctions, smoothies and hot teas. Near the register, there’s a display case holding baked goods, including tarts, croissants and buttery, mind-blowing peanut butter cookies.
