THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe Trope Restaurant Review:

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED This little gem in Dupont Circle stars former soccer-player-turned-chef Howsoon Cham, a Gambian native who has honed his French and Caribbean culinary skills. What makes his cooking so unique is his careful blending of spices (not too hot) and his artful presentations. Besides, he takes a unique approach to using basic ingredients in unexpected ways. Take, for example, his snow pea linguine on a bed of puréed eggplant and lentils, or his rack of lamb, trimmed and delicately arranged on the plate, with seasonings that carry plenty of gusto without the sting. He has even placed Jamaican jerk chicken, which the waitstaff assures is not Jamaican-hot, on the menu; this comes as several trimmed drumsticks coated with spices. His brunch menu is composed of similarly intriguing fare, starring such appetite pleasers as shrimp and grits with chorizo, traditional French crêpes, and filet of beef Rossini with potato hash. And if you crave something sweet, his chocolate lava cake is a triumph of chocolate over calories.
