Campagnolo Restaurant + Bar Restaurant Review:

Meaning "peasant" in Italian, Campagnolo has an open, sub-level kitchen that turns out regional Italian fare. The restaurant's color palette of soothing neutrals, and both booth and table seating, are comfortable. The Italian custom of starting a meal with soup is ably supported with a daily changing offering. In chilly weather, the white bean soup with its tracing of oil, chopped almonds and croutons makes an ideal opener, and its contrast of silky and crunchy textures adds depth and balance. Pastas are available in full- and half-size portions, although the house-made gnocchi and lasagna are not. Cioppino is a winner; this version gathers fresh fish, lots of mussels, clams and shrimp in a light tomato broth, accompanied by grilled house-made focaccia. Another good cold weather main dish is the pork shank served on rosemary-accented polenta, although we thought it could have used a bit of sea salt. Try the bread pudding or the flourless chocolate torte for dessert. Brunch presents several frittate, panini and a few egg dishes. The wine list is heavy on Italian selections, of course, and many are well priced, under $50 per bottle. One drawback: The noise level forces most patrons to seek refuge on the generous patio or come later in the evening's service to avoid the throngs.
