THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cavallino Restaurant Review:
Predictability, in both the food and atmosphere, reigns in this serviceable Italian eatery under the oaks of South Carrollton Avenue. The closest this kitchen gets to creativity is the blush of garlic and parmesan on the bread sticks. But that is Cavallinos attraction for the neighborhood families who largely make up the places clientele. Shrimp, mushrooms and forthright seasonings are found in the fettuccine, a workaday dish that many order. Spinach lasagne flies at the same low-to-medium altitude. The better pizzas are those with no tomato sauce, and the best may be the one with artichoke, spinach, and feta, with a light coat of garlic olive oil moistening the crust. The level of table service is mediocre at best.
