Huge portions of authentic Florentine food and friendly service are the attractions at this Greenwich Village institution. Grilled portobello mushrooms and steamed mussels in a sauce of tomatoes, white wine, garlic and oregano is a favorite starter; popular entrées include such main courses as pappardelle with rabbit sauce, rigatoni alla Medici (served with a cream sauce of chicken, carrots and dried porcini mushrooms), pan-seared beef paillard and a whole Cornish hen marinated in olive oil, garlic and rosemary, then broiled. The mostly Italian wine list has plenty of reasonably priced picks.
