THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Centre Street Cafe Restaurant Review:
The 28 seats at Centre Street Café turn over like hotcakes. With each turn comes a different face: Hippies, grandmas, yuppies, artists, civil servants, non-English speakers. Theyre all part of what makes Jamaica Plain the closest thing Boston will ever have to Berkeley, CA. The liberal spirit of the place plays out in organic foodstuffs prepared with verve and honesty. Vegetables, as youd expect, figure prominently. Dannos Szechwan Shaboom is a stir-fry done right with a gaggle of carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms snaking about noodles that are seasoned gloriously. Chef/Owner Felicia Sanchez has a knack for turning everyday foods into something extraordinary. Daily specials like salmon sitting Sir Edmund Hillary-like atop a summit-salsa of corn, tomatoes, and black beans are worth the extra few bucks. Her roast chicken isnt on there for fussy eaters---its all crispy, juicy goodness. There is often a short line outside, but bantering with your fellow table-seekers can be half the fun.
